VA Mortgage Center.com Announces Scholarship Winners
(PRWEB) December 10, 2008 -- VA Mortgage Center.com, a leading VA lender, has selected the winners of the company's bi-annual scholarship contest. The five $1,500 scholarships awarded are funded entirely by VA Mortgage Center.com employees.
The autumn 2008 winners are Jacob Haider, Donna Hornberger (on behalf of her son Zachary), Alicia Swartz, Terrence Thompson (on behalf of his daughter Allison), and Brandon Rhodes. Of the hundreds of essays submitted, the winning entries stood out for their well-written, meaningful answers to the essay's prompt.
Entrants were asked to write a one-two page essay describing how the Military has taught them to succeed in their educational pursuits, their careers, and their lives in general. General Colin Powell's words, "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure," were included in the prompt to serve as a guide for entrants. Active duty or Veteran Military personnel wrote all submissions for themselves or a dependent.
"With each passing round of the contest, we become more committed to continuing this program," said Nathan Long, CEO, "We know that VA benefits don't cover all the costs of higher education and we are proud to close the gap for these deserving recipients. We are always looking for the best ways to say 'thank you' to the Military community and this contest ranks among our favorites."
The VA Mortgage Center.com scholarship is awarded each year in November and May. Submissions for the next round of scholarships will be accepted in early April 2009.
